Share my dabba!

May 11, 2013

The Dabbawalas deliver over 200,000 meals every day using a delivery system so accurate, there are almost no errors. They have become a symbol of resilience in India having maintained their service since it was founded in 1890, through famines, floods and wars. Forbes magazine has even certified the service six sigma, a level of operational excellence which is used by companies like General Electric, DHL and Motorola to name a few.

Anyway, the most interesting part to me is how they have figured out a way to do this while also helping to feed some of the 200,000 children who go hungry on the streets of Mumbai every day. It’s a brilliantly simple idea which has fantastic results.

Watch the 2 minute video to see how they do it and if you are a business nerd like me, read the Harvard Business Review to see how they work so efficiently.

I’ve got to admit, the food looks great too!
